Carmelo Anthony was one of the few bright spots on the Los Angeles Lakers’ roster last season.
He was brought in to be a spark plug offensively off the bench – and he delivered.
For the season, Anthony put up 13.3 points per game on 44.1 percent shooting from the field and 37.5 percent shooting from three.
Those numbers are right there with what he did as a member of the Portland Trail Blazers one year earlier, averaging 13.4 points per game on 42.1 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from beyond the arc.
Understandably, there is at least one team actively looking to steal him away from the Lakers.
But where does Anthony himself want to go?
“I have certainly heard that Carmelo’s got interest in a reunion,” NBA insider Jake Fischer said on Mike Scotto’s podcast recently. “I don’t know if the Knicks have much interest there.”
That last point, regarding how much interest the Knicks have in a reunion, was addressed by Marc Berman of the New York Post not long ago.
“According to a source, Knicks brass has had internal conversations about Anthony,” Berman said. “Though more pressing concerns about how to rebuild a franchise that’s missed the playoffs eight of the past nine years have taken precedence.”
Anthony obviously wouldn’t turn the Knicks into a title contender, but he would provide a proven scoring punch and veteran stability to a squad sorely lacking in both.
Obviously Anthony is not without flaws. His groupie drama from last year was not ideal. Nor was his ex-wife, La La, going into such unambiguous specificity about why she dumped him.
But as a basketball player, Anthony is immensely talented. Even at this advanced age.

Adding him would help the Knicks; losing him would hurt the Lakers.
Where will Anthony ultimately be playing when the 2022-23 NBA season finally rolls around?
Time will tell.
