Syracuse, N.Y. — The Syracuse men’s basketball team takes on the Canisius Golden Griffins at 7 p.m., Wednesday in the JMA Wireless Dome.

Judah Mintz talked through the offseason about improving his outside shot. He’s made a couple in this game, including one that resulted in a 4-point play. He showed off the skill we all know he has with an impressive drive to the hoop that drew a foul right before the timeout. Mintz scored 8 straight points for the Orange before the whistle.

JJ Starling leads Syracuse with 13 points. Justin Taylor has 11. Taylor showed off a little paint prowess with a drive to the hoop that drew a foul and resulted in a 3-point play.

Something that has stood out so far is Canisius’ ability to get inside pretty easily. SU’s defense needs to pick up screens better and pick up the pace.

The shooting is pretty even at this point. SU is at 50% while Canisius is at 47%.

A weeknight crowd has been pretty quiet so far at the Dome put aside a few dunks by the Orange and even then there was short bursts of noise.

Hello again, SU fans! Welcome to the second game of the Adrian Autry era as the Orange (1-0) host Canisius at the JMA Wireless Dome tonight.

Junior forward Benny Williams remains suspended and is not expected to play tonight. This is the third game Williams will sit out due to a violation of team rules. Williams did not play in SU’s season-opening win over New Hampshire or the final exhibition against Daemen at the Dome.

While this is SU’s second game of the season, it is the first for Canisius. The Golden Griffins have three starters back from a team that went 10-20 overall (8-12 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) last season.

In future Orange news, Donnie Freeman a 6-9, 190 forward from Washington (D.C.) and national powerhouse IMG Academy (Fla.), has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to enroll and play basketball for the Orange next season, according to the University. a four-star recruit, is ranked 38th overall and sixth among power forwards in the Class of 2024 by ESPN.com.
