Just 30 minutes before the scheduled tip off, Joel Embiid was ruled out for tonight’s contest against the New Orleans Pelicans due to an illness.
In his place, the Sixers will go with a small-ball lineup, inserting Marcus Morris Sr. into the unit. This will be Morris’ second start this season, his last coming a week ago when Embiid missed a loss in Minnesota.
Morris put up 16 points, shooting 50% from the field and 60% from three-point range in a 112-99 loss to the Timberwolves.

This was fairly last minute. Embiid did not show up on the injury report all day, but he isn’t the only Sixer feeling under the weather. Jaden Springer is out tonight and has missed the previous two games with an illness as well.
We won’t speculate on if Embiid is dealing with the same illness as Springer, as this news came well after any pregame media availability the team had today.
