YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Four Mastodons scored in double-figures on Thursday night (Jan. 18), but Youngstown State topped Purdue Fort Wayne women’s basketball 66-57.
Audra Emmerson (15), Destinee Marshall (12), Jazzlyn Linbo (10) and Erin Woodson (10) all reached double-digits.
Youngstown State led by 11 late in the fourth quarter before the Mastodons made a late push led by Woodson. She started the 9-3 stretch with a 3-pointer. Emmerson pitched in a triple, then a few moments later, Woodson drove into the lane for a layup and an old-fashioned 3-point play. This cut the Penguins’ lead to five with 42 seconds left. From there, YSU got two quick layups from Haley Thierry to stretch it back out and ice the win.
Emmerson had eight of her 15 points in the opening quarter. Linbo had five points, three assists and three rebounds in the same 10 minutes. She finished with 10 points, five boards and four assists.
The Penguins got 16 points out of each of Paige Shy, Dena Jarrells and Emily Saunders. Shy added seven rebounds and six assists.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 11-8, 5-4 in the Horizon League. Youngstown State improves to 7-12 and 3-6. The Mastodons will continue their road trip with a visit to Robert Morris on Saturday (Jan. 20) at noon.
