ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Lobo women’s basketball team played a Wednesday matinee against San Diego State. While the Lobos led for a majority of the game, the Aztecs were able to surge late in the fourth quarter as UNM fell 60-53. Aniyah Augmon did not play for undisclosed reasons.

Meanwhile the men’s team is coming off a road win in Wyoming on Tuesday night.

“I mean it was just a complete game,” said head coach Richard Pitino. “Built a lead, thought they would throw a punch. You know, they’re really good offensively. They can make shots. They did throw a little bit of a punch. We did a really good job of sustaining it, getting some stops when we needed to and converting on the other end.”

As other games in the Mountain West unfolded on Tuesday night, there is now a four-way tie for first place in the league at 7-3. The Lobos are tied with Utah State, San Diego State and Boise State. The Lobos have wins against both the Aggies and Aztecs but have lost to the Broncos. UNM has one game remaining against all three schools, which will all be on the road.

Also, Jealen House has been named to the Naismith defensive player of the year watch list. House is one of 15 players to be selected nationally and he is the only play from a non power-six conference. He currently ranks seventh nationally with 2.67 steals per game.
