The latest player profile from the Duke Chronicle is out and it’s of Khaman Maluach.
Maluach is a 7-2 native of South Sudan and he’s been a bit of a sensation in the basketball world for some time now.
As the Chronicle points out, he’s partly a sensation because he’s just so long - Maluach has a 9-8 standing reach which means he’s pretty close to being able to touch the rim without jumping.
He’s obviously got immense defensive potential but three point shooting has made rim protection less critical than it used to be. The game is much more about mobility and shooting now than it used to be.
However, Maluach is also seen as something of a unicorn because he can stretch a defense too. He has also barely begun to play, so really the sky is the limit for Malauch. He could emerge as someone who can challenge Victor Wembanyama down the road, and that alone would make him an immensely valuable NBA Draft pick.
