Fran Escribá has renounced the remaining two years on his contract with Elche and is on the verge of signing on as Getafe's new manager. Josep Alcácer and José Marcarós, Escribá's physical trainers, have also left the relegated club.
Escribá's contract ran until June 2017 but he told club president Juan Anguix several weeks ago that he wanted to leave after the wear and tear of the final few months of the season and the uncertainty surrounding the club's future after its administrative relegation from the top flight due to debt problems and non-payment of staff.
The Valencian coach would have had to fork out one million euros for breaking his contract with Elche had the club remained in Primera, but that amount was reduced to 100,000 euros when Elche descended into Segunda. However, the club owes Escribá five months' salary, two seasons' worth of bonus payments and 40 percent of his signing on fee, which he delayed receiving to help the club meet the LFP-imposed salary cap. In total, the club owes Escribá a million euros.
