There is now insult to injury added, quite literally, as it has been officially confirmed by Bayern Munich that Serge Gnabry suffered an adductor injury in his left leg and hip area in Bayern Munich’s 5-1 loss at Eintracht Frankfurt (as per @iMiaSanMia). He is now set to miss Bayern’s upcoming matches, the first of which is the final Champions League group stage match against Manchester United followed by the crucial Bundesliga clash against third-placed VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena.

Gnabry had just recently worked his way back from a broken arm that he had suffered earlier on in the season, so it is now another unfortunate step backward for the winger. To make matters worse, Gnabry had been subbed on to replace Kingsley Coman in the 66th minute against Frankfurt, only to be subbed off after sustaining his injury in the 71st minute by Jamal Musiala.

For Tuchel, he might not have been thinking of making the subs that he wound up making with the next two matches in mind, but once they were down by four goals, it became more of a matter of damage control than anything else.

According to Sport1’s Kerry Hau, Gnabry could miss two- to-three months:

FC Bayern will have to do without Serge Gnabry for a longer period of time. According to @SPORT1 information, a break of 2 to 3 months is currently assumed for the attacker, who suffered a muscle tendon injury in the left adductor area at #SGEFCB.

There is also now mounting pressure on Gnabry, who is certainly now playing nearly as much as he would like to since Bayern’s board had just come out and said they are expecting far more from the Germany international. They feel that he is underperforming so far this season, which is cause for concern for a player that is always up for debate as to whether or not Bayern should consider selling him to reinvest funds into a better, far more consistent winger. His current contract with Bayern runs through June 2026, but Thomas Tuchel and the front office expect far more than just the lone goal Gnabry has scored so far this season.

Things could certainly change for Gnabry, though, just as they had done last season. Some of the crucial goals he scored in the final phases of the Bundesliga season really tilted opinion in his favor amongst Bayern’s board and front office. It negated the lack of consistency that he had gone through for the majority of the season, especially having to adjust to Tuchel’s systems from Julian Nagelsmann’s.
