After the UIL announced its newly realigned districts Thursday, District 11-6A next season will feature two teams that have won back-to-back football state titles in Class 6A with Duncanville and DeSoto. The district will also include a pair of regional finalists, with Cedar Hill and Lancaster, as well as a Waxahachie team that is coming off a 9-3 season.
That district will feature the state’s No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2025 in Duncanville five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore (committed to LSU) and the state’s top recruit in the Class of 2026 in Duncanville five-star defensive lineman Kevin Ford Jr. Other top recruits from that district in the Class of 2025 include Mesquite Horn four-star offensive lineman Lamont Rogers, Skyline four-star linebacker Elijah Barnes, DeSoto four-star running back Deondrae “Tiger” Riden Jr., Duncanville four-star quarterback Keelon Russell (committed to SMU) and DeSoto four-star wide receiver Daylon Singleton (committed to SMU).
There is star power everywhere you look in 11-6A. The same goes for the new District 4-5A Division II that features Class 4A Division I state champion Anna (moved up to 5A), state semifinalist Frisco Emerson and regional finalist Lovejoy.
But those won’t be the toughest new 6A or 5A district in the Dallas area, from top to bottom, according to one metric — winning percentage for the teams from 2023.
That honor belongs to District 10-6A, in which six of the seven teams in the new district made the playoffs last season. As a whole, the seven-team district of Forney (13-2), Longview (11-2), Rockwall (11-2), North Forney (9-3), Rockwall-Heath (9-3), Royse City (3-7) and Tyler Legacy (3-8) had a combined record of 59-27 and won 68.6% of its games.
Forney and Longview moved up from Class 5A Division I and should both be in the mix to win the district title. Forney returns one of the nation’s top running backs in Javian Osborne — who as a sophomore holds offers from national champion Michigan, Washington, Texas, Georgia and Oregon — and Forney will also welcome back four-star Class of 2025 linebacker Kelvion Riggins, who recently committed to Texas A&M.
District 11-6A, even with 15-0 DeSoto and 14-1 Duncanville, was 63-37 and won 63.0% of its games. The records of Skyline (2-8) and Mesquite (2-8) pull down a district that will feature five playoff teams from 2023.
Besides 10-6A, the new District 4-6A and District 3-5A Division II will also have six playoff teams from a year ago. District 4-6A, boosted by Trophy Club Byron Nelson (13-1), eight-time state champion Southlake Carroll (13-2) and new 6A member Justin Northwest (10-3), now has seven teams that had a winning record in 2023, and the district as a whole had a combined record of 68-36 and won 65.4% of its games.
The new District 3-5A Division II features seven teams that had a winning record with Colleyville Heritage (11-2), Mansfield Timberview (9-2), Argyle (9-3), Mansfield Summit (8-4), Arlington Seguin (6-4), Grapevine (6-4) and Everman (6-5). Teams now in that district were 62-37 last year and won 62.6% of their games.
The only other new area district that won more than 60% of its games in 2023 was District 7-5A Division I that includes Red Oak (12-1), six-time state champion Highland Park (11-2) and Midlothian (8-3). That will be the most travel-heavy district for D-FW teams, although Dave Campbell’s Texas Football reported that Lufkin, which is about a three-hour drive or longer from every team in the district except Tyler, is trying to change districts and will likely take an appeal to the UIL.
While five of the new D-FW districts won more than 60% of their games last year, two won less than 30%. Those were 4-5A Division I (Fort Worth ISD schools, Chisholm Trail and Saginaw) that was 26-66 (.282 winning percentage) and 6-5A Division I (Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, Dallas ISD and Mesquite ISD schools) that was 27-65 (.293 winning percentage).
Here is a list of the new districts for the next two years after the UIL announced its biennial realignment Thursday. Here is how the Dallas-area districts in 6A and 5A compare based on winning percentage from the 2023 season.
