Barnsley are close to agreeing a deal with Bradford City for talented goalkeeper Harry Lewis, according to reports.
It could prove to be a big loss for Swindon’s League Two rivals, who will no doubt be planning for promotion after their disappointing play-off semi-final exit to Carlisle United last season.
Lewis featured in every game for the Bantams in their 2022/23 campaign, racking up 18 clean sheets in the process.
The 25-year-old still has a year left on his contract with an option to extend for a second, but TeamTalk has revealed that a switch to the third tier appears likely.
It was heartbreak for Barnsley back in May, after a 123rd minute Sheffield Wednesday winner at Wembley meant it would be another campaign in League One for the fellow Yorkshire outfit.
A return to the Championship will be the aim for the Tykes and manager Neill Collins, and strengthening between the sticks appears to be on their list of priorities.
Prior to his time in Bradford, Lewis spent eight years in the academy setup at Southampton, which included a loan spell at Dundee United.
Bradford were able to secure last season’s top goal scorer Andy Cook for next season and beyond after he signed a new deal back in May, but the loss of their number one could damage their promotion hopes in what looks to be a highly competitive League Two.
With plenty of sides in the bottom division such as Wrexham and Stockport County spending big money this summer, pressure continues to mount on Michael Flynn and Swindon.
Town have still only made just one signing this entire window – goalkeeper Murphy Mahoney on a season long loan from QPR.
The Wiltshire side also lost out on trialist Jordan Moore-Taylor, who instead opted for a return to Forest Green Rovers, just weeks after leaving the Gloucestershire club.

With the season kicking off in just three weeks, time will tell if Flynn is able to bring in the recruitments needed for success in 2023/24.
