Danny Garcia hated to admit it but even someone as mentally strong as he is felt burnt out. He didn’t make too many excuses following his 2020 loss to Errol Spence Jr. but he noticed that he was lethargic all night long.

Garcia (37-3, 21 KOs) took a long look at himself before making his next move. Once he cleared his head, he got up and left the welterweight division behind and began his new campaign in the junior middleweight division.

In his debut, Jose Benavidez Jr. towered over him. Size differences aside, however, Garcia was in another league. For the most part, he dominated, hitting his man with the kitchen sink. In the immediate aftermath, Garcia has remained on the sidelines. Benavidez, on the other hand, has been a bit more active.

This coming Saturday, the 31-year-old will face another opponent looking to end a long layoff, Jermall Charlo. The current WBC middleweight champ is dragging Benavidez, who began his career in the super lightweight division, up to a catchweight of 163 pounds. Garcia doesn't have a horse in the race but he is interested in seeing how things play out. When recently asked to give a full prediction, he complimented Benavidez (28-2-1, 19 KOs) before going the other way.

“I been in there with Benavidez,” said Garcia during a recent sit-down with YSM Sports Media. “He’s tough, he’s strong, he is gonna come to fight but he’s too easy to hit. He’s gonna be right in front of you. I really hit him whenever I wanted to hit him with. I feel like if he runs into a big shot against Charlo, he’s probably gonna get stopped. I think Charlo should be able to stop him because he’s naturally bigger, he’s naturally stronger but he is coming off a long layoff. Benavidez has been a little active.”
