MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - The Alabama Academy of Honor is accepting nominations for inductees into its Class of 2024.
The State Legislature created the Academy of Honor on Oct. 29, 1965, to honor and recognize living Alabamians whose outstanding accomplishments and service have significantly benefitted or reflected great credit on the state.
Recent inductees include:
- U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin
- Former Congressman Jo Bonner
- Tuskegee native and international music icon Lionel Richie
- Former head coach of the University of Alabama’s gymnastics team Sarah Patterson
- President and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Tim Vines
Nominations are being accepted until March 29, 2024. Nominations can be made by any Alabama citizen, or a current member of the Academy.
Nomination forms are available on the Academy’s website or upon request by writing or calling the Academy’s administrative offices.
Current members will elect new members to be inducted at a ceremony at the State Capitol on Oct. 28.
