COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The Melton Memorial Observatory at the University of South Carolina (USC) is hosting a solar eclipse viewing session on Monday, April 8.

The university said the event will last from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and will feature multiple telescopes equipped with solar filters for safe viewing.

While South Carolina does not lie in the path of totality for the April 8 solar eclipse, 80% of the Sun’s surface will be covered by the moon during the eclipse’s peak at around 3:10 p.m.

The viewing session is slotted to replace the normal Monday night viewing, so the observatory will be closed the evening of April 8.
